Phonics Screening Check Results

The Year 1 phonics screening check is not a formal test, but a way for teachers to ensure that children are making sufficient progress with their phonics skills to read words and that they are on track to become fluent readers who can enjoy reading for pleasure and for learning. It will help to identify whether your child needs additional support at this stage so that they do not fall behind in this vital early reading skill.

Year 1 children usually take the phonics screening check in early June. However, due to school closures and the impact of the pandemic, the check  for the last two years has been taken in the Autumn term of Year 2.

At Amblecote, we use ‘Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised’ as our chosen validated Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP)  Programme.

Please click on the ‘Key Information’ Tab and click on ‘Curriculum’ to find out more about the teaching of phonics at our school.
